Lillian Moller met Frank Bunker Gilbreth in June 1903 in Boston, Massachusetts, en route to Europe with her chaperone, who was Frank’s cousin. The Gilbreths also believed that scientific management as formulated by Taylor fell short when it came to managing the human element on the shop floor.

She applied the principles of scientific management to household tasks and «sought to provide women with shorter, simpler, and easier ways of doing housework to enable them to seek paid employment outside the home. In addition, Gilbreth was instrumental in the development of the modern kitchen, creating the «work triangle» and linear-kitchen layouts that are often used today.
